    Check Monitored Elements

    Overview

    Check Monitored Elements audits your Copy/Monitor coverage. It scans the active document for every host element that monitors an element across a Revit link — Levels, Grids, Columns, Walls, Floors, MEP fixtures, and more — and opens a non-modal window listing each one with its Category, name, Element Id, the source Link, the monitored target ids, and a count. Attribution is done by reverse lookup against loaded links; when the source link is unloaded the row is reported as unresolved and names which links to load. Because the window is non-modal, the Revit canvas stays live, and a toolbar lets you highlight, isolate, or select the whole monitored set.

    Toolbar actions

    • Paint in View — applies a graphic highlight to every monitored element in the active view and remembers each element's prior override so it can be undone.
    • Reset Overrides — restores the overrides remembered by Paint in View for this document, in one undoable step.
    • Isolate in View — temporarily isolates the monitored set in the active view.
    • Show All — cancels the temporary isolate, restoring full visibility.
    • Select in Revit — selects every monitored element at once so they collect in the Properties palette.
    • Refresh — re-scans the document; run it after loading a link to resolve unattributed rows.

    Reading Link Source

    Each monitored id is credited to its owning link by probing every loaded link document. When every id resolves cleanly, Link Source lists the contributing links. When a source link is unloaded the id cannot be attributed, so the row falls back to "Unresolved — load one of: <link names>" — load one of the named links and click Refresh to get a definitive attribution.

    How to use

    1. In the B45 Labs | Coordination tab, open the QA/QC panel and click Check Monitored Elements (the default action of the Monitored Elements split button).
    2. Review the grid — one row per monitoring element, sorted by Category then name, showing Link Source, Monitored Targets, and Count. Rows whose source link is unloaded read "Unresolved — load one of: ..." so you know which link to load and Refresh.
    3. Click Paint in View to apply a graphic highlight to every monitored element in the active view; the original overrides are remembered so Reset can restore them.
    4. Use Isolate in View to temporarily isolate the monitored set, and Show All to cancel that isolate.
    5. Click Select in Revit to select the whole set at once (they gather in the Properties palette and can be filtered), or Refresh to re-scan after loading a link.
    6. Tick Select in model so that selecting a row selects that element in the model and brings it into view as you scroll; leave it off to browse without moving your selection.

    Tips & Notes

    • Great for confirming Copy/Monitor coverage in a BEP before a coordination milestone — the Count column flags hosts that monitor several targets.
    • If many rows read "Unresolved", load the consultant links they name and click Refresh; attribution needs the source link open to resolve.
    • The in-window Reset Overrides button and the Reset Monitored Elements split-button action both undo the highlight — use whichever is closer.
    • The window is non-modal: keep it open and keep working in Revit, every button routes its Revit work safely on the main thread.

    Limitations

    • Reports monitoring relationships only; it does not create, repair, or remove Copy/Monitor links.
    • Attribution to a specific link needs that link loaded — unloaded sources are listed as candidates, not resolved.
    • The highlight and isolate act on the active view; switch views and Paint in View again to mark another view.
